Sara Hastings-Simon is a macro energy system researcher studying how low-carbon energy transitions happen at the intersection of technology, business, and policy and how policy responses can improve outcomes. She is an Associate Professor in the Departments of GeoScience and The School of Public Policy, and the Director of the Sustainable Energy Development (SEDV) program at the University of Calgary. Her research is informed by her work with energy companies and governments at McKinsey & Company (2008-2016) and the Pembina Institute (2016-2019). She is active in innovation policy as a member of the board of directors of Emissions Reduction Alberta, an expert panelist with the Institute for Climate Choices, and a frequent public commentator on climate technology policy.
