SUMALIA SULEMANA

PhD Student Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at University of Alberta

Sumaila’s research is focused on assessing CO2 mineralization in Rocks and Mining waste and looking at the possible recovery of critical minerals through the process of CO2 mineralization with these rocks. Prior to this, he had his Masters in Geoscience for Sustainable Energy at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and a BSc degree in Geological Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. Sumaila's passion and drive to sustain the environment and prevent negative impact of exploitation of natural resources, resulting in situations such as climate change earned him Halliburton's STEPS master thesis project where he researched on the topic ' CO2  Mineralization in Ultramafic Rocks'. This new chapter in his life perfectly fit his current research interest in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage coupled with critical minerals extraction. He is honored to be part of a group of experts from diverse fields of study and this could serve as a learning curve for him in achieving his career goals.
